"We'll make it through the fall..."01 August 2004 - 4:32 p.m. Arrggh.... I've been without the precious precious internet for so long. First, we had to get a new modem, because ours was old and Rogers made us. Then, the keyboard stopped working... ? But it seems to be fixed. The weekend has been a quiet one. All of my friends (in this city, anyway...) have left: Myra to her country house (Damn work stopping me from going!), Tanya to her family's cottage and Sunshine, of course, has left and is somewhere in Alberta. So it's been my sister and I, and Kristen sometimes. My parents went to my aunt's cottage. So I've watched movies, painted picture frames, listen to music, read a lot, watched TV, cooked a bit, went grocery shopping, went shopping downtown (Bought a used ...And You Will Know us by the Trail of the Dead CD and the new Avril. I couldn't stop myself!) and generally enjoyed my free time. I only worked for 3 hours on Friday, and don't work again until Tuesday. That's one of the longest breaks I've had all summer! This is what summer is supposed to be. Not working every frickin' day and getting home at midnight. My sister has been working every night, so I pick her up at 12:30am. So even when I don't work, I'm still going downtown every day! But I'll miss Ottawa when I leave, I really will. I've learned to appreciate it in my absence. I must buy bus tickets soon. Someone remind me. Am talking to Mojan over the MSN... and she's telling me she likes Hanson too! Ha ha ha. I can't wait until August 20th. Went to Ikea again with Tanya this week. Bought a fleece blanket, some candles and more picture frames, all for the house. As James says, "I want hoose." Bought myself Coke in glass bottles just for fun at the grocery store. Total rip-off, but I feel like I should be in the 1950's. Watched My Own Private Idaho, and even though I didn't like it THAT much, River Phoenix is hot hot hot. I have WAY too many movies to watch. My dad has sent me Triplettes de Belleville and Talk to Her, which I haven't seen, and Vertigo and Arsenic and Old Lace, which I have. I've got tons from the library, too, as well as some of my sister's. I haven't got enough time for them all! Gaahh. I also have a lot of books around to read, including ones that I bought a year or two ago and haven't gotten around to reading, yet I keep reading ones I've already read! I read all the Harry Potters, I was a Teenage Fairy (I'm getting close to getting really into Francesca Lia Block, like some raver/goth 15-year-old girl who likes to wear fairy wings), and The Other Boleyn Girl, which I read LAST summer but decided to read again. No wonder I have so many unread books around my room. Has anyone else noticed the new Sympatico/Olympics ad? The one with DEATH CAB in it? What the hell? I figure they thought they wouldn't have many fans in Canada, so no one would notice them selling out. Well, at leat it's not McDo or something. It could be a lot worse. And just to make this entry even longer, here are my classes for next year: Mon, 3-5pm, NEW271, Gender, Race, and Class. (Women's Studies) Mon, 6-8pm, ANT200, Intro to Prehistoric Anthropology (Anthro) Tues, 10-12pm, VIC240, Renaissance Culture (History) *with Dave! Tues, 6-8pm, HPS318/319, History of Medicine (History) Wed, 6-8pm, NEW160, Intro to Women's Studies (Women's Studies) Am looking forward to the T.O. trip; I won't even mind the 4.5 hour bus ride. If my sister comes to visit me at Thanksgiving (since our parents are going away to Sask.) I hope that you T.O. folk come visit us, because I'm sure all of my roomates will be gone home. And I might go with Nat to visit my dad at Xmas... That should be fun if it gets planned. I'm tired of summer. I want school to start. I'm excited about classes, about having/setting up a house, about seeing T.O folk again, about living the student lifestyle again. I'm sick of work, of hot weather, of parents (well, I barely see them anyway, thanks to my work schedule) and of worrying about money. Though that won't get better anytime soon. But all the same, I'll be sad to leave the city, and Myra, and Sun, who has already left. I'm talking to her at the moment, she's in Calgary. Tanya gets to come with me to T.O.! So Nat will go to work in a few minutes, and I shall listen to music, watch TV, watch movies, clean my room a bit (all my CD's are spread across the floor), make dinner and sit outside on the porch, smoking cigarettes, drinking Coke (maybe there's beer around...) and enjoying the nice weather. I'll bring the cottage atmosphere to my own backyard! Well, was that long enough for y'all? I should think so!
