Sophie lets her emo out in the form of GUK.15 June 2005 - 8:03 p.m. I know. I've been away for a long time, despite pleas from Soph and Mike to update, so they can be entertained. I feel your pain. How to recap the last month and a half? Finished exams. Marks were up from last year... lowest mark was on B-, in my history of medicine course, luckily only a half year one. Then the job search began. Got a phone survey job, quit (well, just never called them to schedule) after two weeks of not scheduling me any shifts. Utterly ridiculous. Then got desperate and got a phone job selling vacation packages at Yonge and Wellesley. It was one step up from telemarketing, but still sucked ass. So I quit that too, after two weeks. That was a couple weeks ago, and now I'm still a waste of life. I've been applying like crazy to all sorts of things off the school career website and the gov't jobbank. But no one calls me.. I thought I had a job at a bakery in Kensington, but she didn't call back. Tomorrow is an interview/training session (?) at another market research firm at Davisville station. But this one, it says, is for SUPERVISOR. Not just being on the phone. Supervising people on the phone! We'll see how it turns out. But for the past while, I've been applying to jobs online, watching TV (we've still got the digital cable) and surfing the net and meeting for our weekly lunch ritual and watching first season O.C. episodes (so much better than the second season) and going over to Mike's new place and rediscovering good, ol'fashioned, reading for pleasure. Been reading some Dave Eggers, David Sedaris, an account of two girl's first trip abroad in the 20's (Our Hearts Were Young and Gay - Cornelia Otis Skinner) and a book about an Indian murder mystery (The Death of Mr. Love - Indra Sinha), and I'm just finishing The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon, known in part due to it's being included in the Seth Cohen Chrismukkah starter pack. May 2-4 weekend Nat and boy Matthew came to visit, installed Mozilla and the Decemberists were seen at the Phoenix. Ashley also made a reappearance after her year abroad, and is now back to the life of a U of T student. Her b-day came and went, as well as Mike's housewarming party last weekend. Last Sunday the Get Up Kids farewell tour hit the Kool Haus and Mike and I were there, singing and being emo and trying to avoid the stupid moshers. We learned Tia won't be returning to school in the fall (I hope she's told her parents she hasn't been invited back) and Soph and Jen moved back to the burbs. The weather turned sunny, then humid, then disgusting. I've got a fan running 24/hrs a day. I would die otherwise. A couple of visits to Mike's home in Rexdale have been made, including one to go to Ikea and one to find my parents in their high school yearbook. Whee! My dad sent me his old stereo, and it's cool and actually plays CD's, as opposed to mine that died. I'm listening to Something the Write Home About, while wearing my Get Up Kids T-shirt. See y'all later. |
