That's the joint, that's the jam.23 May 2004 - 8:28 p.m. The job's going okay. Yesterday I was calling 905 numbers in Uxbridge and asking them what they thought of the political parties and their leaders. Damn rural people - they all like Stephen Harper! Ggaahh.. Friday at the 'Fest we (Myra, Catriona, Nat, some of her friends) saw the Constantines and Hawksley Workman. The Constantines were extremely good, and Hawksley of course was amazing. We were so close to the front - there were four people between me and the barrier. Nice. The set list, for those who care (Hmm... is there anyone else but Mike?): A rockin' Anger as Beauty with story about the Parliament in the middle, story about our public transit, No Reason to Cry Out Your Eyes, an upbeat Jealous of Your Cigarette, a rockin' Striptease, a very... sensual? :) version of Paper Shoes with just the piano, including a demo of how graceful he is when he plays hockey, Tonight Romanticize the Automobile, a very dark Tarantulove, a slightly reggae Your Beauty Must be Rubbing Off, and a song he "learned at Boy Scouts", Smoke Baby, which had a sample of Chris Isaak thrown in at the end. The encore was We Will Still Need A Song and an extended version of Beautiful and Natural. The whole concert was filled with extended guitar solos, a lot of screaming from the crowd, high kicks to rival Steven Page, a lot pelvis movement, and the best stage prowling I've ever seen. And he doesn't have any hair - as he showed when he removed his tuque at the end. Last night Myra and I finally got to see the IMAX film Ghosts of the Abyss. Only took us a year! (It was out in Halifax last May 2-4 while we were there) It was fab - so much exploring of the Titanic, you can't stop that. The love goes back to grade 6. Today was spent trying on all the clothes in my room, editing as I went along. I realised I had to clean out my room before unpacking. I haven't been able to unpack yet for lack of space. Cleaning out the rest of my room will probably take me until August. So I think I'll drop the Renaissance studies minor, but still take classes from it. Instead, I think I shall replace it with a minor in Women's Studies. Which is also what my sister is studying at Ottawa in Sept. The courses (at New) looked pretty interesting. What do y'all think? |
