I’m coming out of my cage and I've been doing just fine

22 November 2004 - 2:09 a.m.

Am so blurry tired. My archaeology essay looms... I think I'm getting old. The idea of starting to write an essay at this time of night would have been okay last year, even last month, even yesterday. But today I can't do it. I just wish I knew what the late penalty is... can't be too much for only a day. But I'll take it. Hell, it's 7.5% of my mark...

I'm in quite the Xmasy mood. Walking around Bloor-Yorkville, with all the lights and displays... then started some shopping... at Williams-Sonoma, nonetheless! Then Soph, Tia and I watched the Santy Claus parade at Brunswick and Bloor, which was uber-fun. I used to watch it on the telly every Xmas. So many marching bands, and of course it takes the all-black band from Detroit to spice things up, with their strutting girls and dancing baton holders! Just like in Drumline, I'm told. Way to show us cold white folk how to get down!

So today was the Big Day. My mum is in town, and she met Mike and we all went to Sarah and Danny's for dinner (which is why the essay is not done yet). I also got to show my aunt Wendy and Danny around the hoose. I'm afraid we may have spoken about various family members, events etc. that Mike didn't know. (Sorry) Then of course Sarah and my mom go on long dance class and law tangents. Sarah and Danny are both lawyers, and my mom was and works in a law office. But it was fun nonetheless.

What was sweet - first, Danny said he would give in my resume at his law firm for a summer job. And turns out they know some of the people in Stars, and could get us tickets (though the show is on Dec. 18th, durr... I'll be at home!). Even if these things don't happen, it was still nice of them. Oh, he also said he could find short-term subletters for the summer if we needed them(!)

Just not as eventful a family meeting as some people had! Except now his family knows of my existence. Hmm... I'll try to stay as mysterious as possible.

Hopefully Sarah and my mom will take me out to eat on Tuesday. And maybe I'll see Stan somewhere in there, he's in town for business...

Steph's b-day went down without drunkenness, but fun. Most everyone came to Second City, which was very funny. Then we came back to the hoose, and played a bit of 90's Trivial Pursuit, which James and I bought her.

It was the weekend of being treated to much good food.

Next up: Fuckin' 5000 word essay! I need a thesis. Fuck. Fuck. Motherfucker.
P.S. Dave drank/partied with Jimmy Fallon the other day! At the Duke of Gloucester. How cool is that! He was described as being very stoned, witty and a music nerd. He was with a middle-aged gay British man. Sigh...
