Shrimping, shimmying and petting the kitty.31 January 2005 - 1:57 a.m. Has been a low-key weekend. Today I didn't even put on pants. (Go PJ pants!) James and I gave the kitchen a good cleaning while listening to Beatles 1. Of course included in there was a short lecture about the Beatles, as poor James is clueless. Ex: "Is this Paul or John?" Been downloading music, mostly finishing getting albums I had started previously. Soulseek is v. slow and annoying, but I have nothing else. Got the Ordinary Boys, the Zutons, Dogs Die in Hot Cars, Bloc Party, and some non-Brit stuff: Feist in mp3 format for burning, Scissor Sisters (this was care of James, who liked them on SNL) and the new Bright Eyes albums (I lurve Conor). Then Mike made my day by sending me a video of him playing Mushaboom. Which was awesomely awesome. That song is just too good. It's the only song in my iTunes top 40 that I got this month. And it's at #7! It's too catchy. I'm lovin the Feist. Too bad she wasn't at the Broken Social Scene concert on Tues. 30$ well spent, and not just because all the money went to tsunami relief and a women's shelter. All the members were there (I almost know all of their names), along with a rotating cast of Torq, Amy and Evan from Stars (they even sang Sleep Tonight!) and James, Josh and Emily from Metric. Torq even made up a song with Kevin Drew. Gentlemen Reg appeared and him and Kevin did a cover of Mushaboom in lieu of Leslie's absence. Hilariously good. They played a lot of songs from You Forgot It in People, including Anthems... and Almost Crimes with the girls. Backyards too, which is the only other song I know. So much CanCon. It was fun. Many hours of good music. Been feeling sickly this week.. sore throat, pitiful cough and headaches. I'm afraid I made Mike somewhat sick. Sorry 'bout that. Friday was fun - Tanya and I went to the (free!) Women's Studies Day at OISE. There was an hour of Brazilian jiu jitsu self-defence, then lunch, then an hour of belly-dancing and then a talk from a woman from Good for Her, the women's sex shop nearby. Saturday Soph and I finally trekked (well, streetcarred) to Gerrard St E, where the Indian town is. Many groceries bought, and some henna paste to draw all over myself with. We even ate some cheap South Indian vegetarian food... so oily and good. Plus we got a drive back from her sister, so it was win-win. I need to write an archaeology essay about "progress" in discussing one of four articles. Instead, I've been doing reading for NEW271 (lecture tomorrow: Queer as Folk: A Case Study [it's my T.A.'s thesis]) and reading for CLA230 (Ancient Greece). And generally wasting time. I have Franny and Zooey, the Bell Jar and some Anne Sexton poetry from the libarry. But I'm being slow in finishing the Book of the Courtesans. And I was on such a roll too! I want it to be reading week. I want to go home. |
