Sailing mishap!14 March 2004 - 4:18 a.m. Oh, a stressful week of doing nothing. Well, it was supposed to be stressful. But my attempts to do work for the two essays I had due on Friday turned into a week of procrastinating, and a long Thursday night of staying up in the common room, by myself, drinking Earl Grey, making to do lists for the upcoming week, listening to a lot of the Shins and Neutral Milk Hotel, singing loudly and finishing a shit essay on the revolutions of 1848. Strangely enough, I was not tired that day until 4 pm, when I fell asleep watching Oprah. My friends didn't even wake me up for ballroom dancing, but I'm told our teacher yelled at the class for having a "bad attitude." Only two classes left! My mom really angered/confused me earlier this week as well. Money things. And birthday things. Grr... I badly need my tax money. And b-day money. So much worrying. Being a student sucks. I'm dirt poor. I have had to stop all spending, basically. I can't go out to eat, I can't go shopping, go to movies, concerts, call long-distance, anything. I couldn't buy the Get Up Kids new album. I can't buy Rufus tickets (yet, hopefully! I so want to go!). I can't go to see the Egyptian stuff with Tanya at the ROM. Thank God for Mike, who has lent me so many TTC tickets. Luckily some of my friends are in the same position. (Though most aren't) James and I are poor together. Most of my procrastinating was spent with Mike and James, hanging around, not doing much. Everyone seemed to be working, or not around, and it usually boiled down to us three. Which is fine, we'd read Cosmo (for some reason we have like three issues lying around) and watch the Simpsons and chat while James played NHL 04 on the computer. Which includes a song by Brand New! No way! A good one too. "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows." Very emotional. Steph has been around a lot more, which has been nice. A lot of Bertuzzi talk, of course. Scott's at home in Ottawa this weeknd. Strangely, the first night she slept here, I was up all night working. Though we did watch Much together at 8 am. Why she had woken up that early was a mystery to both of us. The second night I had fallen asleep with James again. That was last night, when we and Mike and Jen watched Terminator 3. I'm starting to enjoy the shitty movies he likes, solely for the entertainment and somewhat for the scientific plots. I know what you will say, Myra, and it's not true. We're just lazy. Really. Steph has discovered that she has insane amounts of flex dollars and food plan money left, and has been buying plenty of food junk food for the room. Wraps and bottles of juice and Indian food from Diabolos, UC's coffee shop. So much ice cream and chocolate and chips, you can't stop that. All I do it eat. Especially after discovering these coconut popsicles at the Union (food plan). Oh, man. I'm getting a little stir-crazy, I think. We never go anywhere... we're lazy, poor, under-age (well, a few of us) students. At least we got out last weekend. As I know you all care, Taylor Hanson is 21 today. Their new album is coming out on April 20th, and I have already gotten my dad to pre-order it on amazon.com. It comes with a limited DVD! I will always love Hanson, no matter what anyone says. I've been downloading recent clips of them from talk shows. It's so exciting :-) They are adorable. Saw the Get Up Kids on Tues, with Dave and his friend Kait. They were so awesome, I was practically giddy after the show. So good!!! Erik loved the hip-hoptionary we got him for his b-day, which made us happy. She be wantin' the jimmy raw dog! Thanks for Simon's e-mail, Myra. I too would like to see where Hitler died, gruesome as it is. I talked to Nat on the MSN, and the phone. She left for Ireland today... doesn't have her job anymore, will be home in 18 days. Scary stuff! I'm realy looking forward to her visiting in May, before I come home. I miss her :-( Downloading lots of music this week. Franz Ferdinand, New Amsterdams, more Neutral Milk Hotel (Get Aeroplane Over the Sea NOW... it's amazing), British Sea Power, Death Cab, Grandaddy, the Decembrists, Guster, New Pornographers, Pilate, Postal Service, Ryan Adams (Dave's favourite), Rocky Votolato, Sloan... You can see how I am distracted from my work. Tomorrow I shall finish the Book of the Knight de la Tour Landry and write an essay on it. Probably another all-nighter, won't my body love that. Monday I shall write my music paper on the Barenaked Ladies concert. Tuesday I shall relax. And be merry. And entertain my bored friends. Tah. Oh, and next weekend I shall do the 30-hr famine. Thanks to Ash and Steph, who kindly donated money. "When you were young you were the king of carrot flowers..." |
